It was a rainy day. But the event did not stop !

Event On : Sunday 3rd February at 4.30pm
Venue: Boronia Park , Bridge Street, Epping, Australia.

Around 35 wonderful, motivated people gathered by 4.30pm at Boronia Park, Epping, Sydney to serve the noble cause. Considering the most rainy weather, it was great to see the spirit of all those who participated.

Coordinators distributed the program sheets, cancer awareness fact sheets to all participants. Ribbon pins and Lavender wrist bands were sold for fund raising.

Walk-a-thon started with a prayer. Coordinator described the purpose and significance of this day. During the walk we requested everyone to switch off their mobile phones to enable everyone to fully involve with no interruptions. Children marched with inspiring Pla-cards giving slogans about Cancer and the youth marched with JET & VTSeva – Cancer day banners. During the 10 minutes break, we offered buttermilk and water to all the participants.

At the end of the walk-a-thon Coordinators conveyed Swamiji’s wonderful answers for devotees online questions which everyone loved and enjoyed the most. Event Coordinators informed the enthusiastic and dedicated gathering about the importance of the Cancer Awareness Day, spoke about cancer, how to prevent, the australian statistics in cancer and what causes cancer. They also spoke about VT Seva Cancer Outreach Programs in India and the main aim of VTSeva.

We urged parents and health care providers to educate people about the dangers of cancer and protect kids by making their homes and cars smoke free. We also urged government to educate people, ban smoking in vehicles carrying kids, and outlaw smoking in all public environments.

We thanked participants for their support and participation.

MELBOURNE - Event Details

Event On: Sunday 3rd February 2008 at 4pm
Venue: From Flinders Street Station to Shrine of Rememberance, Melbourne City.

The Walkathon began with a song, from India's ancient scriptures, which has a message about world peace and welfare to convey. After the inspiring message, the Cancer Day Walkathon was organised in heart of Melbourne City from Federation Square to Botanical Gardens and back to Federation Square.

15 volunteers participated in the walk displaying placards about the Causes and Preventive measures of Cancer Disease. There was a very good response from the crowd on the roads and many people donated for the great cause. It seemed like there were many people interested in such noble activities and we felt the need to be more organised. Our special mention to 10 year old Srija who played a major role in fund raising on both Cancer Day and Braille Day.

At the end of the day all the donation boxes were heavy!!. The event was concluded grandly at the Yarra River close to Federation Square .
