The VTSeva cancer outreach program is a pilot program for spreading awareness, prevention and early detection of cancer among the poor people of rural areas of Andhra Pradesh, India. The program was launched in Oct 2007. VTSeva has organized walkathon and events in various parts of USA, India & Australia to promote awareness among the people.

International event of World Cancer Awareness Day has been celebrated by the VT, in the Sardar Patel College, Padmaraonagar, Hyderabad. VT Secretary colonel Sriman Dr.Pandurangarao co-ordinated the programme. Famous Oncologist from Indo American Cancer Institute Hyderabad, Sriman Dr. Mohan Vamsi MS(Gen) DNB(Surg), M Ch (Surg Onco) FRCS (Edin) Director & Chief Surgical Oncologist, was the guest doctor who came to speak about the Cancer, Detection and Prevention. Early Warning Signals of Cancer is the topic taken up by the doctor. Opening the session, doctor explained about the growth of Cancer cells and various ways of detecting the Cancer. He said there are different types of cancers for which the cause is not yet clearly known. For Cervical Cancer in women the cause was found that it occurs due to some infection and so a vaccine was found out recently which is being used throughout the world. Doctor advised all the girls and women in the age of 15 to 45 to take the vaccine and also gift the vaccine during important occasions. It is enough if it is taken once. It absolutely prevents the infection and thus the Cervical cancer, said the doctor. He said that cancer patients need not be afraid and the available systems of treatment are good and giving good results in surviving the patients provided patient co-operates with positive attitude. He gave examples of famous personalities like Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, Ronald Reagan etc., who were the victims of cancer but survived and died due to other reasons not related to cancer. He explained how Cancer is less in India due to its good habits. He said, considering equal population density units if there are 50 Cancer patients in rural areas of India, there are 140 patients in cities like Bombay and there are 250 patients in the same unit in developed cities like SanFrancisco etc. He advised to stop consuming tobacco products and also alcoholic preps and junk foods.

Doctor strongly advised not to go with the rumours about cancer and any medical consultations may be made with experienced doctors to follow up the course. Doctor also replied to the nice questions posed by the audience. Doctor was honoured by VT and he said that he is always available for serving this cause taken up by VT.

President VT India, Sriman Mahender Reddy addressed the gathering and invited everyone to take part in this project of creating more awareness among the uneducated as well as in the educated people too. Ex president VT Sriman Ramarao joined the occasion and said that VT is doing many services and all the youth have to take part in doing social service activities by voluntering.

Srikrishna Swamy presenting the report of the Cancer Awareness Activity being conduted in India and abroad explained about how our Indian cultural aspects contribute to the prevention of many diseases. He explained about the facts from WHO in regard to Cancer Awareness Day and presented the facts as reported from John Hopkins Hospital USA and about the information from the Internet regarding the juice of Graviola fruit that is said to be 10,000 times effective than chemotherapy and has no side effects and invited the interested people to go through the additonal facts and inform to VT.

Founder of VT HH SRi Chinnajeeyar Swamiji conducted the volunteers training programme through eminent doctors and expert enthusiasts where volunteers will be taught about conducting survey in the chosen area, convincing people to reveal the facts and working with other health workers and organisations, create awareness about cancer, conduct camps and simple tests if required and guide to the doctors if found positive, provide help to the extent possible to make them care about their health preventing this deadly disease.

The Cancer Awareness programmes being conducted by VT in Krishna/Guntur Districts Andhrapradesh, Visakhapatnam, Bangalore, CHennai and other places were reported. The Cancer Awareness programmes being conducted in India and also in other countries USA, Australia, UK were also recollected.

Volunteers interested in participating in spreading Cancer Awareness, Early Detection and Guidance, in Hyderabad Twin cities were invited to register at VT office or through Online at www.vtseva.org Sri Swamiji when recently visited NewJersey USA, visited a Cancer Fundamental Research Centre where our volunteer Sriman Dr.Vasudeva Ginjala is working as a research scholar. HH Chinnajeeyar Swamiji suggested many research points to the local Research scientists who are highly surprised for the indepth Knowledge and the facts revealed by Indian Literature, Sasthras.

Smt. Padmaja who suffered from Cancer, spoke on the occasion and said, many people think that if cancer is affected people become psychologically depressed This which need not be there at all. She said that if it is detected at the earliest, definitely good treatment is available if we approach doctors at the earliest, and it can be treated. She said that, after 8 years suffering and recovering from Cancer she is back into duties normally and working as Cancer Consultant too.

Sriman Pavan who was suffering from Cancer and is now recovering is working as Physiotherapist and Teacher in one of the local college at Hyderabad. He said though I am suffering from some side effects doctors have assured and I am speedily recovering. He advised the sufferers not to panic and get depressed.

Secretary VT India Sriman Pandurangarao MS, M.Ch (Pae Sur), FICS spoke on the occasion and advised everyone to reach the doctor at the earliest and follow their instructions. He thanked the college administration and the principal of the Sardar Patel College Smt.Hema Rani.

Principal of the Sardar Patel College presented an report about their college and said this college is doing good service activities in addition to the Education to the students at graduate and undergraduate level. NCC cadets of the college also helped the VT volunteers in organising the congregation.

Sriman Kamatam Ramakrishna Reddy a veteran Leader actively took part in this programme and gave a message to the audience saying that when he happened to visit China he didn't find much obesity problem as pronounced in other countries where as it is much found in the western countries. He referred to the doctor Vamsi Mohan who said that cancer is more easily affected to the obese.

Many VT Volunteers of Twincities and members of educational institutions participated and extended their services. Sriman Yogesh from Kukatpalli arranged for the banners, and the exhibits for the visitors.

The programme ended with the Thanks by the Treasurer VT India Sriman V.Ramakrishnamacharya to all the participants. Yuvavikas the youth wing volunteers who offered various services in organising this Awareness programme, rendered the closing prayer and the programme came to an end.
