The first Junior college
of its kind exclusively for the Blind and Visually Challenged was
started at Kukatpalli, Hyderabad, in Andhra Pradesh. It was
inaugurated on Aug 31st, 2007. The junior college provides
FREE education along with FREE boarding, clothing, basic medical
facilities, for low socio-economic underprivileged blind students.
53 Blind students were enrolled this year
2007-08, who pursued their studies in History, Civics and Economics
as well as in Civics Economics and Commerce groups. Highly experienced
and renowned staff in respective subjects gave training on the
subjects to these Blind students. There is a specialised staff
having computer expertise and experience in teaching for the
Blind to take care of all the technical needs of these children.
60 Laptops are provided to these students and
intensively trained to take state level exams. |

A team of generous philanthropists, under the guidance of HH Sri Swamiji, volunteered to begin with the project.

|
With the oral
encouragement and moral support from the Ministry of
Education, Andhra Pradesh, blind students went
ahead with their training on laptops to appear for their
exams on laptops. Sriman Chandraiah played the
key role in supporting the Brilliant Idea of HH Sri Swamiji.
The idea of practical implementation of Laptops and
the bold step by the management to go ahead in procuring
them and also giving proper training, to those blind
students is something really an adventurous task !
This is an
English Medium college mainly to help students to get
exposure to many other sources of knowledge in modern
scenarios of the world. |
As of today,
Blind students anywhere in the world have to pursue the studies
upto 10th standard or beyond by themselves using Braille or other
alternative and appear to the examination only through a scribe, a
helper, usually who studied less than them, a totally new
person who assist at the time of exam only, in writing what these
blind students dictate. This is resulting in the improper presentation of one's real talent, affecting the real performance of the candidate.
Now, as
these blind students, though came from different medium, are getting well versed with English, they can type their answers on the
computer system and give a printout which will enable them to
really present themselves for their performance. However, process
of procuring the permission from the government is a big task.
After careful study and observation Government gave
permission and students appeared for their final exams Inter I
Year, during Mar 2008, with the help of Laptops. This is a
UNIQUE EVENT in History of the World especially in the
Education field of Blind.
This being the unique project taken up by VTSeva for the sake of Blind students, it opens a new avenue of social service to those who are really keen to take part in such social service activities.
Every month the total maintenance of the college comes to about $5000 ( Approximately Rs. 2,00,000) including boarding and educational expenses for these students. VTSeva has shouldered this responsibility with the full confidence that many like minded generous philanthropists shall come forward to help run the institution.
The team of members of the Nethravidyalaya Junior College Committee expressed their commitment to HH Sri Swamiji for His noble gesture. Students who completed their 10th standard (grade) in the Nethravidyalaya School at Vizianagaram have expressed their gratitude to HH Sri Swamiji for giving them this wonderful opportunity to learn better and become more useful in service of
humanity.
HH Sri Swamiji offered Mangalasasanams (blessings) to Sriman
M.Rama Rao and to all the members, volunteers and the staff who played their role in making the project fruitful
and continue progress.
Jai Srimannarayana !
